Roses University

A bunch of SCA members sitting under a tent during a class.

There is a wonderful tradition of holding a wide variety of classes at Roses.

Roses A&S University Schedule

Are you up for volunteering an hour or so to teach someone else about that thing that you love to do? We can accommodate almost anything. Just ask. Do you need outdoor space? We’ve got that. Sheltered space? We’ve got that. Access to electricity? Yup. Water? Good light? Yup, yup. Space to spread out? We can accommodate you. Extra-long class time for complicated or advanced projects? Perhaps a part 1 and part 2? We can handle that, too. If you can think up a class, we can figure out how to make it happen.

To register your class, please email our MoAS with your class title, description, ages it is appropriate for (possibilities are 6 plus, 6 to 12 with parent active participation and 12 plus, age 12 and above, OR age 18 and above only) any materials fee, any special needs (lots of light, electric, etc.), how long you need, your preferred time (give 2 options). moas@concordia.eastkingdom.org. There will be at least 3 class spaces available for each time period.

When feedback is not properly given or received, hurt feelings can easily result. In this class, we’ll examine the issue, and figure out if we can help change the culture of how feedback is given and received in the SCA so that everyone can work together to create a better and more supportive Arts and Sciences community. Please note that this MoAS-sponsored class is one of the requirements for becoming a Certified Judge in the East Kingdom.

This course will discuss the pros and cons of all the possible class delivery options (in person or online? synchronous or asynchronous? lecture, demonstration, or workshop?) and some pedagogical strategies for each scenario. If time allows, we will also talk about the importance of creating a class description that accurately reflects your topic and what students can expect if they choose to attend. Though there is nothing to prevent a minor from attending this, this course is aimed at those interested in teaching in the SCA, and will be taught using language designed for an adult audience.
